Pat Green, Targeted Youth Worker Youth Service, Aylesbury
Thank you so much Magdy and Em for the sessions you delivered to our targeted young people. Over the six weeks the young people gained an immense amount of skills, knowledge and expertise into how to take care of themselves in difficult situations.
Without exception all the young people expressed their enjoyment of the sessions which were delivered in a professional manner. The needs of the young people were varied and at times challenging however outcomes were achieved by all the young people present. One specific outcome/breakthrough came when a young person, coming from a chaotic background, engaged with ongoing encouragement from both of you.
Thank you so much once again for your patience, time and professional expertise in ensuring these sessions were delivered in an appropriate manner within a relaxed and friendly environment.
As a service we would highly recommend your services to other professionals seeking personal safety sessions.

My job requires me to deal with some violent people at times and I felt the training I received from the job was lacking. I chose Combat Academy to improve my capabilities because not only are the techniques effective but the philosophy behind their work is to enable safely neutralising a threat with a proportional response. I encourage anyone who has confidence issues or just wants to feel safer in day to day life to try it. I have been training with Em and Magdy for a few months now they are very friendly and expertly take you at your own pace with no pressure.

It’s sad but true – normal life is not as simple as stepping into a boxing ring or an MMA cage. In real life, an attack may come from the shadows…without the warning of a bell, without a referee to stop it if it gets too one sided. In this day an age, there seems an increasing number of those out there that would sooner take than earn…and we are all those people’s next potential victims in waiting. To try and ‘target harden’ ourselves to such events, there are countless things out there you could try – but what do you really need? You need strength, fitness and both mental and physical speed. You need to know techniques designed to give you the upper hand quickly and effectively. You also need to know the limits….what is ‘too far?’. Above all else, you need the confidence to knit all that together.
Admittedly certain things will give you some of those – you may get fit in a gym for instance….you may become a good fighter with a Thai boxing coach…but Combat Academy tick EVERY box. This really is self defence at its most raw. Up close and personal, realistic, intense. Designed to test you at your most vulnerable and push you beyond where you believe your limits lie – yet still be able to coach it all in a fun way that keeps you coming back for more every week. As someone with several years of home office approved security training, I certainly felt there was a place for Combat Academy in my personal skill set. And that remains the case to this day. No matter what your age, your ability, your fitness level…give it a go…one day, when you least expect it, you may just be glad you did.
Mary Schultz, Grapevine Essex
Grapevine Essex is a charity which provides fully supported recreational and educational activities for adults with learning difficulties in Essex. We approached Richard from the Combat Academy, Chelmsford, to run a self-defence class for some of our members over the Easter break. They had to fill in a medical questionnaire in advance so that Richard was well aware of any possible problems which could arise.
To begin with, we had a question and answer session on what constitutes bullying and how we may present ourselves to a possible bully as an easy target without even realising it.
Richard discussed ways of making ourselves ‘safe’ whilst out and about…for example, if you have to use your mobile phone, then make sure your back is against a wall so that you cannot be attacked from behind. He stressed the importance of not having earphones over both ears to make us more aware of our surroundings.
We then got onto how we can protect ourselves from a possible attack to the head area. Richard explained very carefully all steps involved and made sure he involved everyone even those sitting out on the side. We practised how we should place our legs, arms, hands and elbows to fend off an attack to the head. This was repeated many times and will stick in their memories, I am sure.
All the time, Richard was very professional, caring and made sure everyone completed the manoeuvres carefully. Excellent session and I would thoroughly recommend Richard to any other group looking for self-defence instruction.

“Just wanted to give you a personal thank you for all your hard work yesterday at the event. We have had some great feedback on you guys and hopefully will lead to us working together again (you guys made me look great for finding you). Thanks again”.
Karen Palenski, Royal Russell School, Croydon
“All junior day girls were given the opportunity to take part in a four week self defence course run by Combat Academy in the first half of the spring term and the senior girls in the second half! The course lasted for four weeks and consisted of both practical and actual strategies to use in a variety of situations which the girls might encounter as they went about their daily lives to and from school on public transport and round and about at the weekends. Obviously none of us expect to find ourselves faced with an uncomfortable situation and are unlikely ever to deal with anything but, as they say in the scouts ‘BE PREPARED’.
Combat Academy provided excellent and fun tuition, putting the girls at their ease as they put them through their paces – what to do if someone tries to come up to you aggressively, what to do if you are grabbed from behind, how to throw someone to the ground – but always with emphasis on making good your escape and using only necessary force. The final sessions was, arguably, the most fun, as six nine year old boys came along to act as would-be attackers! Although the emphasis was, indeed, on having fun with the skills involved, there was a clear message that the girls had been given strategies which, hopefully they will never need to use but which are they should it prove to be necessary”.
Marie Kervin, Fourth Form Year Leader, Prior’s Field School
“Fourth form girls really enjoyed their sessions with Bronwyn and Anthony. Their lesson was paced really well and used an excellent structure to demonstrate the moves, give a chance for the girls to be active and mirror the instructors in a safe environment. There was purposeful progression and a clear development week to week”.
Donna (parent), holiday kids club surrey
“Kyra had the best time at Combat Academy, she started off wanting to go just for one day, then ended up going everyday thereafter. It is such a fabulous healthy way to spend the holidays. Thanks so much”.
Sharon Beare, Surrey
“Lauren had a fantastic time and was full of confidence when she came home showing us some moves and flattening her dad to the floor in one of the learnt moves!”
